The Cadet Parents' Committee (Lizzie Brown, Liz Adams, Mel Lewis, Elaine Moore, Barty Dallimore and Lisa Boyce), helped by your Cadet Committee led by Cadet Captains James Dallimore and Amy Munro, have been busy planning for the 2007 season. Events popular in 2006 will be repeated, with some additions.
The RBYC has seen a flurry of youth training over the winter. As well as hosting an RYA East Zone Optimist Squad training weekend, the club will have held four open optimist training sessions, run in conjunction with IOCA (International Optimist Class Association). The enthusiasm for winter training by RS Fevas has been in evidence too. Three full weekends at the RBYC as part of the RS Feva Zone Training run by RS Racing’s coach Craig Asquith have also been on the programme.
Listed below are the key cadet racing dates for 2007 so you can start filling in your diaries and booking holiday time off. The full programme will be available before the end of the month.
In order to offer better training, we will be scheduling two full weekends of pond/beginners training. Provisional dates are Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June (second weekend of half term) and Saturday 30th June/Sunday 1st July (same weekend as RS Feva Open Meeting). Please contact Lizzie by email on lizzie@rbycsailing.wanadoo.co.uk if you are interested in more details.
If demand is sufficient, we would also like to run joint sessions with the BSC on the Pond on a Friday evening. Again, please contact Lizzie if you are interested.
We are also looking to expand on the pre-Cadet Week/pre-Nationals Optimist Training Days we have run for the past two years. The idea is to extend this to include other classes, in additional to the Optimists. Provisionally, these will be run in the week commencing 23rd July July. Again, contact Lizzie to register your interest.
We also plan to offer river training for our beginner optimists as well as open training with an RYA coach for our Fevas. Details of this to follow shortly.
